Sep 30, 2024 (newstodate): Facing potential bankruptcy if hopes for a new external investor are not materializing, Estonia's Nordica is fighting to keep its fleet in the air.
As one glimpse of hope, the carrier still has placed one Airbus A320 aircraft on a lease contract with Bamboo Airways since the start of this year and has now managed to obtain a lease contract with the Norwegian carrier Wideroe that is already operating one CRJ900 aircraft from Xfly, Nordica's subsidiary.
-We are working hard on a plan to ensure that we can get as many new customers as possible for our aircraft by November 1, Nordica's Chairman of the Board Remco Althuis tells Estonian media.
The Nordica Group's subsidiary Xfly has been operating regional flights on a long-term wet-lease contract with SAS, allocating seven ATR72-600 as well as nine CRJ900 to SAS that is now instead turning to the Swedish regional carrier BRA for capacity from end of October.
