Jan 08, 2025 (newstodate): Finnair's cargo growth dampened in December 2024, according to the latest statistics.
A total of 11,097 tonnes of cargo was handled by the carrier, down 11.8 percent y-o-y, primarily due to a pilot strike that resulted in the cancellation of approximately 300 flights.
With a drop by 21.8 percent to 5,571 tonnes, volumes carried on the Asian lanes were the most affected, while volumes on the M East traffic operated for Qatar Airways were alone in increasing by 7.7 percent, y-o-y, to 2,110 tonnes.
Wrapping up Jan-Dec 2024, Finnair Cargo lifted a total of 146,957 tonnes of cargo, an increase by 8.6 percent y-o-y, down from the 10 percent increase during the first 11 months of the year prior to the industrial strike.
Statics for January 2025 will present a changed picture as the "strategic cooperation" with Qatar Airways Cargo taking effect from September 2022 is due to expire from January 1, 2025, after generating 23,904 tonnes in 2024.
