Jan 10, 2025 (newstodate): Plans are emerging for establishing a new capacity provider based in Norway.
Behind the vision is Espen Hoiby, AAP Aviation CEO founder and owner for over 10 years, drawing also on experience from 25 years in the cockpit of SAS aircraft.
-We are currently working on obtaining a full Norwegian AOC, building on our current EASA PART NCC acceptance by approval from the Irish Aviation Authority that allows us to perform ferry flights, says Mr Hoiby.
-Our aim is to establish amongst others a quality capacity provider to serve airlines seasonally with short- and medium haul aircraft the size of Boeing 737 or Airbus A320 on long-term contracts.
-Today, five percent of the wet-lease and ACMI providers dominate the highly competitive short-term lease market, while a host of smaller providers offer wet-lease services at varying quality levels. And even for an old aircraft, monthly leasing rates are in the range of 2-300,000 USD.
- Considering the seasonality of the airline business, normal wet-lease or ACMI at today's terms is obviously not a sustainable model for airlines. Even during slack seasons, airlines will still be tied up with the full costs from aircraft and crews.
-We are, however, convinced that airlines will react positively to new, innovative solutions. Our business idea is to offer operating the airlines' or their lessors' aircraft on long-term contracts, relieving them of excess capacity during slack seasons while securing capacity during peak seasons - in short, providing full operational flexibility through the year while lifting off the costs of excess capacity in slack seasons.
-We do not intend to own aircraft; our fleet will be sub-leased from aircraft lessors or directly from our coming airline partners. Price is a crucial parameter, and we are sitting on the fence till the right offer is negotiated.
-Anyhow, we expect to be in the market already in 2025, preferably in time for the coming summer schedule, says Mr Hoiby.
